Dennes Sims created the Johnny Heartless character in 1989, at the age of 19, while sitting bored at work one snowy day, and continued to draw them at irregular intervals through 2003. Still, he says, he intermittently draws an episode or two just to keep in touch with the character. In late 2006, Dennes Sims finally began compiling all of the episodes into a book form because of the many people who had come to enjoy reading his creation. “It all started with a hat,” said Dennes Sims. “I bought a nice looking fedora, and people remarked that I looked like one of those old 1950’s private eyes. I was bored at work one day, and I started doodling this private eye comic strip character… Johnny Heartless was born. I suppose my former bosses are finally going to have proof that I was screwing off at work now. Shhhh….”
ABOUT AUTHOR Dennes Sims is a self-published author, accomplished musician, and an artist. He holds a B.S. in Electronics Engineering and completed a two year course in Graphic Design and Commercial Art. He and his wife, along with their dog and two cats, live outside of Omaha, Nebraska.
