Press Release Body = Dr. Aaron B. Kantor, Executive Director of Cell and Molecular
Biology, Biomarker Discovery Sciences at PPD, Inc. will present on Pharmacodynamic
Biomarkers Identified with Broad-Based Phenotyping at GTCbio’s Rediscovering
Biomarkers: Detection, Development & Validation Conference taking place on July
23-24, 2007 at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla in La Jolla, CA.

Broad-based phenotyping provides fundamental information about disease and treatment
and enables discovery of new and useful biomarkers. We applied SurroScanTM laser
scanning cytometry, immunoassays for specific soluble proteins, and
mass-spectrometry based differential proteomics which track thousands of analytical
variables, to the identification of pharmacodynamic markers for interferon-1-beta in
multiple sclerosis subjects. A strong pharmacodynamic effect was observed 1.5 vs. 6
days post weekly drug injection. Significant differences included interferon-
inducible gene products, and monocyte-associated variables. Multiple differences
were also observed among multiple sclerosis and healthy control cohorts.

GTCbio’s Rediscovering Biomarkers: Detection, Development & Validation Conference
provides comprehensive coverage of a wide range of topics including Biomarker
Application in Oncology Clinical Development, Drug Discovery, Development and
Diagnostics of Biomarkers, Tools for Improving Measurement, Safety and Validation of
Biomarkers, and Upcoming Technology and Trends.
