Launch of the North American Association of Hobby Farmers

Released on: January 8, 2008, 10:30 am

Press Release Author: Karen Ritchie

Industry: Agriculture

Press Release Summary: Launched by Karen Ritchie, the Founder and President of the
North American Association of Hobby Farmers (NAAHF) to provide information and
community for new and experienced small acreage farmers.

Press Release Body: (PRWEB) January 7, 2008 – Hobby farmers are those who live on
small acreage without making a full-time living from their farms. There are over 27
million hobby farm households in the U.S., and that number is growing as more people
flock to the rural lifestyle.

Launched by Karen Ritchie, the Founder and President of the North American
Association of Hobby Farmers, the association targets new and experienced
small-acreage farmers to provide information and a sense of community as they share
information on topics like: choosing a hobby farm to fit your goals; growing fruits,
vegetables, and herbs; raising animals; understanding new legislation that affects
small farms; and other topics of interest.

For non-members, there is free information available and a monthly e-newsletter,
“Hobby Farmers News & Tips.” The Small Farm Resource Guide published by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture provides valuable, frequently updated contact information
for most U.S. states and many outlying U.S. territories.

NAAHF offers paid memberships, which allow member-only access to forums facilitated
by experts in areas like: organic gardening, raising animals, and rural education.
The benefits include a significant discount on a subscription to Hobby Farms
magazine, the premier magazine for hobby farmers offering monthly articles on topics
of interest; access to monthly tele-seminars on topics you can use; a unique bound
journal to record your hobby farming experiences; valuable discounts for products
you need to build your farming and ranching life. A portion of each membership is
donated to The Nature Conservancy to preserve plants, animals, and natural
communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands
and waters they need to survive.
