Delhi Giants reign supreme over Rockets of Ahmedabad

Released on: March 17, 2008, 11:33 pm

Press Release Author: Madan Sharma

Industry: Media

Press Release Summary: With the Rockets winning the toss and batting first, the
early loss of three wickets before the first four overs ended was a major blow to
the team which literally left them crippled.

Press Release Body: What else was expected from the Delhi Giants than winning the
match which had a paltry target of 108 set for them by the Ahmedabad Rockets. The
win came in pretty easily with nine wickets still in the bag. Gunawardene scored a
good 55 and was awarded the Man of the Match.

With the Rockets winning the toss and batting first, the early loss of three wickets
before the first four overs ended was a major blow to the team which literally left
them crippled. The openers Dholpure and Hinds were caught behind and run out
respectively and MW Goodwin was again sent back by a run out. A 62 run partnership
between S Sriram and DR Martyn was what then revived the team’s score with another
player Patel back into the pavilion. Sodhi came in after these two left and score
eleven more runs in the form of a six, the only one in the innings, a four and a
single coming his way on just four balls.

Delhi Giants came in long strides on the pitch with Gunawardene and Mishra opening
for the team. Mishra got out on a score of 18 runs but with his spell with
Gunawardene, the team scored 66 runs off the first ten overs. What lay ahead was
just a piece of cake and was acquired as easily too. Bali came in and supported
Gunawardene whilst he hit great sixes and beautiful fours. The match was won easily
by these two players and Bali also played a good innings with an unbeaten 34 runs by
the end of the match.

This match left the Delhi Giants with four points. Now they are on the top of the
table but the Badshahs share place with them even when they have played one match
less.
