In uncertain economic times, couples are not as willing to splurge on wedding costs.
Instead, they are looking for ways to have that special event for less. That is the
inspiration for a new website, Wedcheaper.com. The comprehensive site provides
insider tips and product suggestions on catering, flowers, dresses, and just about
any other expense that comes up. Website founder, Leila Morris said, “wedcheaper.com
is dedicated to helping brides and grooms plan a cheap wedding that doesn’t look or
feel cheap.

“It all gets down to being a smart consumer and not leaving your brain at the door
when the wedding vendor tries to sell you a fantasy. There are so many extras that
vendors try to push that won’t make a difference to you or your guests. Just saying
the word ‘wedding’ to a vendor instead of ‘party’ will jack up your costs!”

The site focuses on creative alternatives, such as buying your wedding flowers at
Costo or having your reception at a restaurant that you reserve just for your event.
When asked what is the single biggest way to save you’re your wedding, Morris said
to limit the guest list. “With even a reasonably modest catering fee of $30 a plate,
just 50 extra people will cost you $1,500. At my own wedding, we only had 75 guests
and it was such a warm and fun event because so many people knew each other.” What
about parents who push you to invite a lot of people? Morris said to give both sets
of parents a set number of guests they can invite and ask them to pay extra if they
want to go over that number.”
