How to Successfully Start and Run Label Your Own Record

Released on: May 9, 2008, 12:48 pm

Press Release Author: Ty Cohen / Platinum Millennium Publishing

Industry: Entertainment

Press Release Summary: Successfully Start and Run Your Own Record Label. How to
realize your potential and further your music career.

Press Release Body: Many musicians are content to just ride along on the coat tails
of large record labels. This is all very well if you really do not want to take your
music career to the next level. However others want to not only chase their dreams
but achieve them. These are the select musicians who are willing to take risks to
gain more. How can you do this?

Success in your music career can be achieved when you break away to start and run
your own record label. Once you become an independent label you can take your music
career further than you ever thought you could. You can not only make a name for
yourself but invite other musicians to use your record label for a small fee. This
means that even if your latest work flops you still have some music out there on
your label.

When you start and run your own record label you will need to first register your
business or record label name. This will protect your copyrights. You can do this at
your local City Hall. For an additional fee they will search for businesses with the
same or similar names for you. Be sure you choose a name that represents your
business and at the same time is easy to remember.

Once you have registered your name you can now start to establish yourself. First
you can do so by playing in local clubs and events like weddings. These will often
be one night stands, but at least you will get your name out there. As you play more
gigs your confidence will grow with your reputation. Start to establish your own
unique style.

When you have branded your business and found your own special style of music it is
time to go onto the next level. Getting your own album published. Prepare some of
your best loved works and add some new ones. You will be well advised to hire a
promotions manager to find and negotiate with distributor companies.

Try to get some legal advice for signing contracts as they can be a little tricky.
The last thing you need at this stage is to get bound to an unfavorable contract,
which will give you little or no money. Make sure that you can release recordings on
your website. Make sure that your copyrights and interests are taken care of. You
may want to hire an entertainment lawyer to handle all of this.

At this stage you needto do some serious marketing online and offline. This is where
your manager should be able to take you to new levels. Your website will give you
access to a global market as well as promoting you locally. This will open the doors
to national and International tours.
