LateRooms.com - Glasgow to stage BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Afternoon Performances

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra's (SSO's) Afternoon Performances concert series is set to get underway at Glasgow's City Halls in mid-December.

Audiences at the Grand Hall will be treated to recitals of Debussy's iconic 24 piano preludes on Thursday December 15th, as well as a rare performance of a Vaughan Williams piece composed in the 1930s.

Critically acclaimed viola player Lawrence Power will play the lead on the rendition of the little-known work, which was dedicated to the great British violinist Lionel Tertis.

The SSO's programme also includes the Second Symphony by Borodin, a vigorous romp from a composer famed for his dramatic and intense music.

Founded in 1935 by Ian Whyte, a Scottish conductor and composer, the BBC SSO is widely regarded as one of the top orchestras in the UK.

It has won several prestigious prizes down the years, including four Gramophone Awards and a Royal Philharmonic Society Award.

Martyn Brabbins will be the conductor for the Glasgow performance, which will start at 14:00 GMT. Tickets are priced at £7 in advance or £9 on the day.

Classical music fans can visit LateRooms.com and choose from a wide and varied selection of Glasgow hotels such as Blythswood Square Hotel, a five-star spa in the city centre. For further information on the concert, head to www.glasgowconcerthalls.com.
